Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In general, the castles in the Wexford area are absolutely awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting these ancient ruins.

The castle wasn’t great. Closed up. Look if you are passing. Great walk around to hook head lighthouse. Good loos and lively harbor.

Went to Slade as was my maiden name. The ruins of the castle walls on a narrow bend, towers over the small Harbour, a small plaque on the castle wall offers some information.
The Harbour is small but peaceful and a lovely sun trap to just sit and reflect. Behind the clean and free to use toilet block the vast expanse of the sea takes you out on a cliff walk to Hook lighthouse. Scenery was breathtaking as we went on a very stormy windy August early evening. Waves crashing on the rocks, we followed the sea spray path around to the lighthouse. Best 40mins spent - turning round to walk back, Slade Castle visible over the corn field one can only imagine what life was like inside the impressive caste walls.

Slade is a small village with a small and basic harbour and a derelict Castle. It doesn't have any facilities. However if you fancy a nice walk to Hook Head this is a good place to start. You can walk 2/3 kilometers around the headland to Hook Head lighthouse and there are some lovely views and quite a few wild flowers (depending on the time of year). The walk goes through private land but access is permitted at own risk. There are several walls and stiles to be negotiated along the way

We walked the area and admired the scenery, quite lovely, the harbour is nice also. Shame it is not open to the public.

Easy to find and see, as the area is very flat. Pretty location. Can’t go inside. Keep in mind it’s on private property. The entrance is also locked with a gate.

While around the area, can walk along the sea walls. Keep an eye out for the blow holes!

Family holiday day out looking at the smaller sights around the area. This is a lovely castle but unfortunately its not open to the public. Still it looks so lovely form outside. Strolled around the beautiful Harbour. Quiet and lovely relaxing place. The water in the Harbour was so clean it was pleasantly surprising. Fair play to those looking after it. Keep up the good work as it is really appreciated by myself and my family and hopefully by all those visiting the area. We could see the little crabs in the bottom and so we were thrilled. Thanks

Beautiful small harbour with the remains of Slade Castle. It has a lovely walk to Hook Lighthouse along the coast. It is great for fishing my husband caught a dog fish on his fish try. Locals are very friendly and willing to give advice on places to go. Definitely worth the trip to see if going to Hook Lighthouse.

We do the walk from the Hook Lighthouse to Slade regularly and we walked it this weekend in the beautiful sunshine. When we arrived at Slade we used the toilet facilities and were so impressed by the clean, freshly painted toilets. There was toilet paper and soap. We congratulate the local people that keep it in such a pristine condition.

Sitting in a nice location by the small harbour, but not open to the public, just along the road from the lighthouse, went the wrong way and found it.
