The audio visual presentation helped to place the castle in its historical perspective. The grounds are beautifully manicured and the rooms grand. Part of the castle is now used for conferences, but there was still quite enough to see. In the portrait gallery take care not to miss the painted structures supporting the ceiling.

Beautiful grounds and the inside was beautifully restored. The entry price was reasonable, we were allowed to peruse at our leisure with a map so it suited us perfectly. Worth a visit.

The Castle was within walking distance from our hotel, lots of pubs along the way, or you could stop in at a nice restauant for lunch.

I last did the Kilkenny Castle tour in the mid 1990's. We did it again in Sept 2012 when we were on holidays in Ireland. The castle had changed a lot in the meantime with good quality renovations. We enjoyed visiting the castle. The grounds are beautiful and are open to the public. It is a self guided tour and a number of the rooms are furnished. If you are in Kilkenny you should visit the castle.
