Myself and my boyfriend did this trip last May 2011 and at the time it was touch and go whether boats could go over to the island. Fortunately we were lucky and we hopped on an old fishing boat and headed out across the waves (big big waves). The crossing was long and rough but great fun and we did... More

Pictures of Sceilig Mhichíl always amazed me. When friends suggested we take a trip and go there last summer I couldn't say 'yes!' fast enough. After so much anticipation, reality surpassed all expectations. Now, bear in mind that you'll be on an open-decked boat, no shelter from showers and spray, with perhaps a considerable swell. You absolutely must have suitable... More

Don't go to the skelligs when it is any less than a really calm day. I went the first week of October and it was a very bad experience due to the tail end of hurricane Phillipe coming in. I don't think the boat should have taken us out, but the summer was very bad for the boats. I am... More

We booked three days in advance as I had been advised boats are often full and dont always go because of weather. Our B&B told us the shortest trip was from Ballinskelligs and it was well worth paying the extra money (50 euro as against 45) to use the covered boat. How right she was! She also told us that... I don't want to be too negative about our expierence of the trip our driver joe was very helpful and friendly, the journey over lasted about 45 mins and was'nt too bad, no sea sickness on our boat. When we got there the island is very impresive and myself and my partner where glad we had made the effort. The... More

its not the easiest place to get to. its not for those who have a fear of height...of water..of Puffins but for those who do make the trip from the fishing village of Portmagee to Skellig MIcheal you are in for one of the most amazing places not only in Ireland but in the world. To me - it ranks... More

Wait the rough weather out, the experience is a lifetime unforgettable day. Take wet weather gear as weather changes from sunny to showers in minutes. Also wear sturdy shoes as the climb is uneven steps, then just imagine what the generations before would have had to endure,it takes you to another world of thought. so amazing. More

My two adult sons and I visited here a couple weeks ago. I booked the trip a few weeks ahead of time but I understand that it is not necessary to do it that early. There are about a dozen boats that are licensed to take visitors out to Skellig every day and each carries about a dozen passengers. We... More

Lots of people have reviewed this attraction and they are all pretty accurate but I felt I had to make a comment as I was a bit nervous going to visit this beautiful place, and there was no need to be nervous. Now I know the day we were there the weather was perfect, and people are not normally that... More
