Brilliant insight into Irish history, especially the uprising of 1916, as many of the rebels were incarcerated here. Its basically an old jail with little or no interactive historical material to inform one about its significance.Although I'm interested in History including Irish history this did not do it for me. More

You'll learn a lot about Ireland's struggle for independence and many of the struggles heroes. Chilling in places, as many of them were executed here. More

The stories and the history behind the gaol are immense and some of them quite moving, the building itself is magnificent and the tour staff were really helpful and friendly. This is more than a special place in Irish history, it is a special place in mankind's history. Incarceration, punishment and reform are on display. The tourguide's script was comprehensive, well-researched, beautifully delivered by a pro who 'owned' the history he was relaying. Excellent tour guide. I read reviews before I went and was warned in them to dress warm as it is very cold.....trust me I dressed appropriately and was freezing. Well worth it but PLEASE trust me, its VERY cold. Definately a must visit! More
