We spent an afternoon here with teenagers. Kilmainham Gaol gives a brilliant insight into Irish history. The tour guide was really information and held everybodies attention on our visit. We spent ages viewing the artefacts afterwards. The letter written by occupants was quite moving. Well worth a visit. Great for teenagers to bring history to life for them. More

This place is chillingly full of history about Irish patriots. It made me feel sad and genuinely moved. The tour guide was excellent and brought the place to life. More

Brilliant insight into Irish history, especially the uprising of 1916, as many of the rebels were incarcerated here. The beautiful Victorian wing of the gaol is outstanding architecture and stunning to look at. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and for 6Euro a ticket this attraction is well worth a visit More

Its basically an old jail with little or no interactive historical material to inform one about its significance.Although I'm interested in History including Irish history this did not do it for me. More

You'll learn a lot about Ireland's struggle for independence and many of the struggles heroes. Chilling in places, as many of them were executed here. More

The stories and the history behind the gaol are immense and some of them quite moving, the building itself is magnificent and the tour staff were really helpful and friendly. Especially our friend Patrick! Would strongly recommend (plus beer is cheaper in the Kilmainham area as its not central Dublin!) More

This is more than a special place in Irish history, it is a special place in mankind's history. Incarceration, punishment and reform are on display. The tourguide's script was comprehensive, well-researched, beautifully delivered by a pro who 'owned' the history he was relaying. Off line he (Michael) was glad to handle individual questions about prison and historical details. The visual... More
