Carefully thought through tribute to Mackintosh in his designed home for the Bassett-Lowkes - even the modern cafe was good too at the end of the walk-through.

This is a Grade 2 listed Georgian building in Northampton, originally built in the 1820s and remodelled in 1916-17 by the architect Charles Rennie Macintosh and it is the only one of his to be found outside of Scotland.
Although the restoration finished about 10 years ago it seems as if it was really more recent and it is quite...

We were thrilled to chance upon this opportunity to appreciate a Macinsoth masterpiece in England and would thoroughly recommend a visit - we had 90 minutes but could have spent longer. Benefiting from a visitor centre with gallery space and a cafe, at 80 Derngate , as well as the restored Rennie Mackintosh house at 78, although there is the...

This is a fascinating place-lovingly restored in part to its former glory.A good marriage between past and present
Visited with a large party for a "hen do" dinner.
Was greeted on arrival by a waitress serving champagne from a silver salver. Was then directed into a room for dinner. There was one long dining table and it felt a little as though we were in somebody's living room.
The food however was good, goats cheese starter, mushroom "Wellington"...

A well organised museum and fascinating to look around. We went on the guided tour which was a good idea as we learned far more about the people than we would have done if we guided ourselves. Poor Mrs Bassett Lowke! Her husband and Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed the house together with no input from her. There is a distinct...

Visited over the Easter weekend while shopping in Northampton.
The restoration is quite amazing each room has a booklet with a detailed description, extra information and best of all pictures of how the rooms looked when lived in all those years ago. Bonus is there is still some very real elements remaining.

Great tour round with load of interesting info. A must for Charles Rennie Mackintosh fans. We also had soem time in the tea room which was being well used by the locals, and you dont get higher recommendation.
Only had lunch and afternoon tea here, but everthing has been of a high standard. Very friendly staff and would recommend.
This restored Mackintosh house is a wonderful and unspoilt Northampton house. We had an informative tour of the house which, though not large, is full of interest. Some of the rooms are spectacular examples but there is also the strong influence of the owner who commissioned Mackintosh to design the interiors. A very good cafe for breakfast, lunch or tea.
