I love it around here, so many shops to see and great old buildings. It's lovely to see so many independent shops and so many wonderful unusual places to eat and drink. But don't forget your cheque book!!!

the Shambles always has a great feel to it with its little shops and closed in feel of history. you can prchase all kinds of memorabilia etc etc, but go beyond and into Fossgate, there are some real gems there too but aways you end up back at the shambles.

I've been coming to York for years and I usually love a walk down the Shambles but this year, it was spoilt by too many modern signs. I love the architecture, which is it's main claim to fame but you can't get a good picture for intrusive for sale signs and advertising.
I think for someone visiting from overseas or...

Great area for little souvenir of York city. Unique buildings, worth a view if your shopping in York...they also have ghost walks and tours around that area.
This wasn't quite what I expected, I expected a longer street with more variety than a bunch of tourist shops and tea rooms. The quaint higglydypiggldy buildings were interesting though.
The Shambles is a series of tiny Medieval streets, now crammed with tourists and shops and cafes. We just loved strolling around the cobblestone street of The Shambles. The different little shops, the narrow streets, the history, quaint places to eat. We found some neat gift ideas, enjoyed a poundwich (any sandwich for a pound), took in the sites, walked about the outdoor market. Loved it.
Loads of unique shops selling loads of interesting things, York has the highest amount of individual, shops in Europe.
This was quite the walk. Up and down through narrow little streets discovering a treat in every alleyway. Looking for the famous York chocolates. Had dinner at a little out-of-the-way pub recommended by Rick Steves in his book. This was our bible along the way, as we could not have found these places without it.
SO old so pretty very hard in wheels did the middle of the road but would love to go back The shops sell everything you want but it is very busy best early in the day
