Canary Wharf and the surrounding areas are well worth a visit. Beautiful buildings. Lots of underground shops. Outdoor ice rink. Green areas with fairy lights. Bars and restaurants.
No visit to London can be complete without a visit to the Docklands area. The London docklands were of great importance in the history of the development of Britain's empire and of its status as a great trading power. Very clean and 'business-like' as expected. We only passed through on the DLR on our way to Greenwich but were quite impressed and certainly a different part of London to have a quick look around while switching between tube and DLR.
Once upon a time, Docklands was run down and dismal, but not any more! The transformation in this area of London has been amazing and it is now an area that is desirable and full of really interesting modern architecture and design
The ghostlike experience of docklands seems very different from the rest of London, but definitely worth a few hours. take the railway through and see the designed "Canary wharf" train station. Combined with the tunnel under the Thames to Greenwich, you can spend an exciting day.
It's exciting arriving at canary wharf . The skyscrapers, the lights, the sculptures. It may be a temple to Mammon, but what a fun place to visit, live or work. Love the restaurants, the purpose, the hanging out in the local cafes. Just magical being by the water.
Buzzing place. Lots of places to eat and drink. The DLR and Jubilee Line make it so accessible. Use the DLR to get your bearings first. Admire the architecture and enjoy the buzz at night during the week. Weekends take on a different feel.
I work in the Docklands @ Canary Wharf & have to say this is one of the nicest parts of London with lots of shops, restaurants & bars for socializing or for those who like to be more adventurous there are lots of nice areas to walk around & see the historic past of London's East end.
