The title of this review is true! A Wet Nellie is an absolutly gorgeous piece of cake. packed with fruit, moist and filling and nearly as stunning as the surroundings served in the Home Farm cafe. A lovely walk round the grounds reveals a panoramic vista of liverpool airport, oil refinerys and industrial estates overlooking the river mersey. No wonder... More

Visited here for the second time recently. The house itself is fascinating but we missed out on a guided tour which would have improved our enjoyment. The grounds are lovely, not extensive like some other NT properties. The stable cafe is most enjoyable, especially on a dry day when you sit outside. Plenty of picnic benches if you want to... More

We were on holiday the whole week and had been all over the North West and North Wales in damp weather. We decided to take our friends to visit Speke Hall, nearer home, over the May Day holiday on the Monday and had a brilliant time in the sunshine! There was a Tudor camp on with all kinds of things... I didn't realise that this place existed till I visited with a coach tour a few days ago. The building is stunning to look at as you approach and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The panelling, heavily moulded ceilings and dark, carved furniture make for some very dark rooms, and are not to my personal taste, but I could appreciate... More

I saw over twenty attractions in the UK and this was my second favourite (behind the Tower of London). It is a fabulous example of Tudor style architecture. The house is a hidden treasure, wonderfully restored and maintained by the National trust. Lots of really interesting historical points here such as the "eavesdrop" and the hiding places for the Catholic... More

An interesting visit, the history of the Tudor hall goes back some 500 years. Top marks to the voluntary staff who gave some fascinating detail about those who lived there and where some of our present day sayings and habits came from. Amazing Courtyard trapped in time, carved furnishings, the different rooms, fittings, portraits etc. all helped fuel the imagination.... More

Very interesting house with excellent guide but grounds rather limited. We travelled out by bus which involved a 20 minute walk at Speke

We visited on Bank Holiday Monday for the May Day Tudor Festival. They had lots of events on Archery (£2.00 for 5 arrows), quill writing, brass rubbing, hobby horse jousting and outdoor theatre and my 3 children aged 10, 8 and 4 all enjoyed it. There are loads of garden areas and lots of grassy areas where the kids coudl... More

We visited on a very hot May Day Bank Holiday . Wonderful atmosphere with morris dancers and tents with food and tudor style music. It was extremely busy and we had to queue to get into the building but once inside because of the size and amount to walk around the crowds were not too bad. Very interesting with information...
