All visitors to Keswick seem to want to walk up this little hill. It is not a difficult walk, but the views over Keswick and Derwent Water are worth the climb. Do continue your walk down to Grange, it has a wonderful little tea room.

Take the Launch from Keswick and start your walk from Hawes, then climb Catbells. Climbing over the tops to High Spy then down Newlands Valley into Keswick. Enjoying your packed lunch along the way.

Decided to try and get the kids up this as their first mountain, well worth the effort. The loved it and managed the whole thing without crying. We ascended from Hawesend and the climb starts gentle and gradually gets steeper, before levelling off and getting steeper again. Only a few bits they couldn't manage on their own. Go for it!

We did a 10 miles walk over the cat-bells, although a shorted 4 miles one was available if one can't be bothered. It is relatively steep to get to the top, but it actually does not take very long. Would suggest you go only if the weather is nice, otherwise would not enjoy the view and with the hill-top location... More

This walk, which I first did 35 years ago, remains an accessible undertaking for a range of generations. Gentle in parts, but with some undoubted challenges, the sheer beauty is well worth any effort. Views are spectacular, fellow walkers courteous and flora and fauna simply make it.

Great walk across three challenging lumps - with fantastic views across Derwentwater. Our kids managed it fine - one at 5 years the other at 7 years. Lunch at The Dandelion Cafe on the road on the way back to Keswick. Great day out.

Great views, easy Access, height gain in rapid short bursts direct from the car park.... For a big day out just keep going and there is a vast horseshoe to the south taking in High Spy, Dale Head and returning via Robinson. One of the Lake District classics.
