We left it a bit late to visit, so we could only get into the gardens. Finding real rabbits running around the garden was delightful! We wished the house had stayed open a little later so we could have enjoyed the whole experience.

Worth a trip but a tad disappointing as a showcase. It's a little out of the circuit of Lakeland and takes an effort to go. The NT could have made more of what it's all about. However, to be fair, the area around is gorgeous as ever in The Lakes, and the small farm and animals are interesting.
I adored my visit to Hilltop. The car park is very small so it was a bit of a nightmare to park but we got into the house on time (the entry is timed so too many people dont go in at once). The house is a credit to the National Trust and Beatrix Potter, fascinating and informative. The copies...

This is worth the visit even for those who are not big Beatrix Potter fans. It is a lovely house and really shows how affluent people in the beginning of the 20th century lived in the country side. The wardens were very knowledgeable too and made the visit special.
For those with an interest in Beatrix Potter this is a must. Volunteers help to give a flavour of what it was like in Beatrix Potter's day. So many views which inspired her illustrations and stories. Even complete with rabbits! Parking is limited but friendly NT staff will help.
Gives a wonderful insight into Beatrix Potter and all she did for the National Trust.. The guides were really pleasant and informative.
When you visit here you enter the world of Beatrix Potter - this is where she wrote many of her stories and as you walk round the house you recognise scenes from them. The interior is as Beatrix left it. You can also check our Mr McGreggor's garden - and you might see Peter Rabbit, or one of his friends!

To think that we were treading on floor boards that once were trodden by this famous lady. The old furniture that she collected was really interesting as was the whole house. I can highly recommend this property to anyone who is...

A very small and atmospheric site. You can almost see the animals running around, pinching carrots etc.
Wonderful going back in time house, just as Beatrix Potter left it. Very interesting. Only small but well worth a visit.
