John W summarises this wonderful circuit brilliantly although I usually do it in reverse, ascending The Band, negotiating the Climber's Traverse to Cambridge Crag (stop here for the purest water you will ever drink) before taking the Great Slab route which leads to the summit. This is a deservedly popular outing from Langdale. Park at the Old Dungeon Ghyll NT car park, if you can (~£6.50 to non-members. Change machine near the loos inthe ODG). This is a very demanding walk and should only be attempted by experienced and prepared walkers. What started off as a beautiful day at the bottom soon turned into a very wet very foggy day. We climbed this on a sunny Autumn day.
