Six hundred years of history are contained within the walls of one of England's oldest family homes. Sir Philip Courtenay began building it in 1391 and it has remained in the same family to this day, currently home to the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon. The magical setting and convenient location makes it the perfect venue for all manner of events including wedding receptions and business functions. For locals and visitors to Devon it is a 'must see' and with its many attractions - a wonderful family day out! « less

Powderham Castle is set in wonderful grounds, make sure you allow enough time to not only visit the Castle, but also enjoy the ground.s, (we were there approx. 4 hours). The guided tour of the castle was very interesting, lots of hidden secret doors, and interesting family history. The animal area for children was also very much appreciated by adults... More

It was a last minute decision to visit, but we were very glad we did. Staff were wonderful (Dave & Mike) & we learnt so much during the tour. Grounds are immaculate & so very pretty. Wish we'd had more time to spend there.

We had thought about visiting here for a while, at £11 per adult it's not cheap so we made sure to choose a warm sunny day and allow plenty of time to have a good look around. Being midweek in school time there were not many visitors, but this was great for us as when we walked out through the... More

Thankyou very much for taking time to write a review. We are delighted you enjoyed your day at the Castle. What a shame you never got in to the nursery. It is based in the glasshouse at the top of the Walled Garden and the entrance is at the far right end. Toby has a number of 'projects' on the... More

My reason to visit it was to go on a deer safari. Unfortunately, it was too wet and we could not do that. We decided to stay and visit the castle. Tour was nice, guide was funny and castle and garden were lovely. Restaurant was not so nice, poor selection and not so cheap.

A brilliant day out, made even more special with the Willy Wonka experience! Look out for the Jonny Depp lookalike at other events through the year. The tour of the castle was fascinating and even entertained the small ones in tow. We loved the fort and super friendly staff...the geese and turkey were very amusing...a beautiful setting and well worth... More

We had a great day here on Good Friday. Everyone was entertained, we had a mix of ages 8, 10 and 14. Couldn't do deer safari unfortunately due to flooded river, will return. Took part in Willy Wonka experience which was well thought and carried out. Pets corner lovely, play area good for 10 and under. Trails really good beautiful... More

Thank you for your kind comments, the weather is miserable at the moment but at Powderham we like to think we make our own sunshine as there's lots to do both inside and outside of the castle, with our free return ticket you can also come back and see what you missed if the weather is really miserable. Here's hoping... More

This is definitely the best castle! Even better than Leeds) It has a lot of rooms with many hidden doors and rooms) I would say unusual castle, comparing to others. Here for the first time i`ve seen the medieval kitchen, for example. Besides, there are a lot of things to do: there is a falcony, deer safari, rose garden, cafe... More

Located on the banks of the Exe Powderham Castle has an enviable setting. There are guided tours which are very informative and it's obvious the guides enjoy their job. There is plenty to see on the ground floor but access to the first floor is via the grand staircase and its a ver grand, very long staircase. Again, a webcam... More
