This may be a museum with lots of displays, but it's really a treasure trove for people with a passion for nautical things. On the surface, there's lots to see about Kingston's nautical history, but for those with a deep interest, knowledge, and background in nautical engineering, operations, and lore, there's almost too much to see. So if you're a... More

Decent gift shop, interesteing permanent exhibit, price very reasonable. Hope they have tours of their on site floating big boat in the summer months, because none of the summer exhibits were yet open. Okay for an hour.

A must for anyone interested in Great lakes shipping, in boating, in the Great Lakes. A renowned research facility and attractive museum. One exhibit is devoted to the ill-fated "Edmund Fitzgerald." Others show ice boats, bits of equipment, scale models, maps showing sunken vessels, etc. A tea room serves refreshments in season. The decommissioned Coast Guard cutter "Alexander Henry" is... More

I learned so much about the history of the area and it was presented in an interesting manner. There is a great film on site and a boat that is dry docked that gives you that hands on experience that you can really imagine what it would be like to be sailing onboard.

Walking through the Ice Breaker ship on-site was incredible. How do they do it...... I was totally lost in the museum - I don't know port from starboard and anything else. I was awed by it but not inspired.

We arrived at 3:30 not realizing the museum closed at 4:00. It was apparent that we couldn't see it all in that time period so they told us to enjoy what we could and didn't charge us. What we did see was very interesting and we plan to return to see it all.

Just a unique experience. Nothing else like it of which I am aware. The ice breaker next door has sleeping accommodations.
