Travel time only a few minutes and this time of year the Nanaimo Harbour Ferry runs every 30 minutes - from each side!

Come here often at all times of the year to enjoy the surroundings. Highly recommended spot to check out in the Nanaimo area. A little ferry ride, a scenic hike that will suit all age groups with overnight camping available, and a great lunch at the Dingy Dock Pub just a short ferry/boat ride away on the way back....Nice!

The five hours we spent on Newcastle Island was one of the most relaxing times I've had on a vacation. We had beautiful weather with temperatures in the low 80's. A small boat took us from Nanaimo to Newcastle Island for $9/person for a roundtrip. There is no fee for the island. I recommend good walking shoes if you plan... More

We have spent the day on Newcastle island and kayaked around it. Both trips were awesome. There is a small passenger boat the goes to Newcastle, the schedule is more frequent in the summer. Renting the kayaks was a nice, cheap option as well and this way you can see more of the island and easily pull into one of... More

Newcaste Island s a great place for a walk - but pick a nice day so as toi staty dry! You reach it by a ferry from the Nanaimo waterfront - or on your own boat. You can easily adjust the length of the walk you want to do as there are a number of walks in this BC Provincial... More

An experience with nature, walking through the woods or along the rocks by the shore. We were chased away early by storm clouds.

The island sits in a position off of the Nanaimo harbour next to Protection Island. They "protected" the inner harbour hence the name. Newcastle was named from the British who landed here to mine, log or fish. Newcastle Island has a very high quality of stone that was cut out and sent around the world to use in the pulp... More

Newcastle Island is a must visit if you are looking for a memorable day trip or weekend away. The island itself offers a nice cleared path for hikers, lovely beach, very affordable restaurant with delicious meals and clean scenic camping spots to pitch your tent. There are wedding facilities, showers, and a gallery depicting some of the islands history to... More
