We are not your day tourist in Mexico. We spend about a month each summer in Chicxulub Puerto , 4 miles away, each summer with our 2 boys. We have discovered different activities over the years that we all enjoy. List of favorite things to do in and within 20 minutes of Progeso: Swim/fish/collect shells/beautiful sunsets El Chorchito...cenotes w/in a mangrove..$2.... More

Progreso has been my full time, year round home for the past 14 years so I'm obviously a little biased when I say I LOVE IT HERE!!! Just the right mix of Mexico & modernity for me with a charming Malecon (seaside prominade), an authentic mercado, shops, great fresh seafood restaurants, the world's longest fixed pier (7 km) for photo... This little town welcomes you with fresh paint, cleaned streets and raked beaches. The townsfolk are ready and willing to help you with anything you need. I love the city market with all of the colorful sights of fresh fish, fruits and vegetables. This town is getting better with every visit. I love it here!

We stopped on Progreso for our Dec. Carnival cruise. We came to Progreso with the intention to go to The Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, but it is about an hour and a half inland and my family couldnt manage to get ready on time.It is difficult to coordinate a family of 6. Well, after blaming each other about our late... More

A good beach with good restaurants, nice sand and clear water. Worth the drive to see a completely different part of the Yucatan.

Locals go to El Toro seafood restaurant to avoid the tourist places on the Malecon.... There are some nice palapas on the beach to provide shade at the western end (close to the gargantuan pier), with no pressure to buy anything from the restaurant that "owns" them.

We cruised out of New Orleans and stopped in Progreso. There is a free shuttle to town. The shopping is fantastic! Shop there before Cozumel! Stopped on the beach at Buddy's-had a drink and swam on beautiful beach. Progreso is beginning to redeveloped and the people are nice.

I went here as a day trip from Merida. It was not a cruise ship day. Unfortunately it was windy so suntanning was painful with the sand blowing all over me. The water was too choppy for swimming. I found the vendors friendly without being annoying like Cancun. I had a lovely massage on the beach. I got the full... More

With the exception of cruise passengers who stop for the day, very few people are aware of Progreso (with one 's'). It is located on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, four hours by bus from Cancun. The city of Merida is one half hour away, with almost one million residents! The recently remodeled Malecon (beachfront) is a great place... More

Progresso is a cruise ship destination beach. As such, it is not as nice as other coastal beaches. There is more trash then I like to see washed up on the beach and lots of vendors selling cheap goods. However, the beach side restaurants are a good place to have a sunset cocktail.
