The building reflects a time from past, the granduer along with the massive murals located on the second floor. The murals portrayed the struggle and evolution of the Yucatan.

Go see this building. Love the layout, the murals. There is always police standing outside and others we met didn't think they could enter. Of course you can. They're just standing there chillin out. It's like a museum there. The second floor is where this amazing room is with paintings depicting their history. You're going to love it.

It's free. Walk past the guards and enjoy the beautiful and placid colonial interior. Then go upstairs for some of the most amazing murals I've ever seen. I knew basically no Yucatan history when I came in here. The murals taught me folklore, bloody conquest, slavery, and independence. But with details and raw emotion. It was a beautiful place.

What a nice surprise to go upstairs in a government building and find these exquisite murals, depicting the history of the Yucatan. They are very impressive, large, floor to ceiling and very well maintained. Take your time, there is a lot to see here! The building itself overlooks the main square so in between the murals, you can look out... More

We did not take the tour but wandered around on our own one evening. What a gorgeous building and the murals are amazing. We really enjoyed reading about the history.

The murals by Mexican artist Fernando Castro Pacheco are amazing. Apparently they were executed over a period of about 24 years. When you see them, you´ll believe it. They´re large and tell the story of the Yucatán from the beginning of what is known about the Mayan people to the 19th century. Some of the paintings are hard to "read"... More

Right on the Plaza Grande in Merida, so easy to find and very accessible. It is free and there are good washrooms there because it is a municipal building. Good to remember when you are traipsing around Merida for the day. The murals are terrific, and the history depicted in the side salon with paintings is incredible. You must not... More

We didn't take an official tour, but simply strolled through on our own - the plaques for each painting or mural were great in explaining different periods of the history of the Yucatan peninsula.

The walls are covered in murals that tell the history of the Yucatan from the Mayans to the Spanish conquest. Very interesting, like being in a museum. Beautiful old building.
