I recommend you make a dinner reservation at a local restaurant but before that take a stroll on the Malecon. This trip we noticed that they restricted car traffic so you can stroll down leisurely and view the sculptures that back drop the ocean. The week we were there they had some beautifully constructed sand sculptures that were just amazing.

Marvellous area to walk by the ocean and traffic free. Lots of restaurants and bars. As a tourist expect to be bugged every step of the way by people trying to sell, jewellery, clothes, hats , timeshares, cigars, tequila or entice you into their particular establishment. No gracia becomes second nature after one or two hours. Unless of course you... More

This is a very enjoyable walk along the waterfront in Puerto Vallarta. It is especially enjoyable on Sunday s when many of the local Mexican families are out together enjoying the weather, swimming in the river and enjoying the sand art along the Malecon. Local merchants will approach you selling their wares and cheap beer or tequila, look out for... More

We have been to the Malecon several times, and each time thoroughly enjoy seeing the sculptures, people watching and just sitting on the beach (right off the Malecon) enjoying an ice-cold $1.00 beer.....even though the sheer number of vendors can be a little daunting. We did find that if we had a Mexican friend with us, we were not bothered... More

The Malecon was rebuilt for the Pan Am Games a couple of years back. Statutes were relocated to the end of each block so you can see them from the one way street that is 1 block away. Nov to Apr there are FREE tours that explain all the statutes. So informative and lasts about 90 minutes. Also things people... More

Hotel was not too large. Malecon is good way to get to central and downtown. Hotel Rosita and El Pescador have same owners. I want to try El Pescador some time.

Was a little tentative heading to this boardwalk but didn’t need to be – it appears to be safe, busy and fun. Locals wares of all types, plus some striking art installations. Enjoyed seeing local families in the river underneath a bridge on the boardwalk. The old town around the boardwalk is nice and worth exploration as well.

Since it had been 31 years since I had visited Puerto Vallarta, it was wonderful to see the improvement and tourism the Malecon has brought in. The only drawback is the constant vendors and their comments to this mother/daughter duo, i.e. 'sisters come here, do you want a Mexican boyfriend, etc.' It does get old very quickly and doused any... Not sure of what to do in Puerto Vallarta? Go to Malecon. A nice variety of restaurants, bars, stores and hotels all with a great view of the ocean. Do salsa dancing at La Bodeguita or dance music at Madala. Soak in the sun on the beach and enjoy fish or shrimp on a stick from the vendors. Day or... More
