Old town was one of my favorite parts of our trip. Chaos is an understatement however. Cars and people EVERY WHERE. Enjoyed every minute of it.

We returned to Mazatlan and were excited to see what had become of the "centro historico". Many of the buildings are hundreds of years old, built around central courtyards which have been over-run by trees. Efforts at gentrification and renewal are paying off. Start your visit at Plaza Machado and wander, enjoying the sites.
lots of good crafts and jewelry shops. We bought some nice silver bracelets and rings strolling thru is safe and fun
It is very reminiscent of New Orleans. Well maintained, brightly painted buildings on narrow streets. Watch out for the other drivers, very frightening. Our guide was a taxi driver, and we got a very good overview. Well worth looking over.

Loved this part of the city. It had beautiful streets and interesting old hotels and great food. This is what you imagine Mexico to look like.
Must see in Mazatlan, just a big part of the history. Side walks are rough and the smell is a bit tough, but, fun to shop the open markets. Better prices than the golden zone and more begging for your business, but take a "no" fairly well. Glad I saw it, but, don't really care to go back.
