It was fine getting to St. Thomas early (the Pump Room had cold drinks and good lunch). Don't get to the West End early (Tortola) - there is NO where to sit, get a drink, or get out of the sun except for one tiny church pew in a very loud office area with no air or breeze. Not good.

We accidentally got on the Smith Ferry because we didn't want to wait until 4pm for the next ferry. It's filthy. The seats are all torn up. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get from St. Thomas to Roadtown. We stopped at West End and just sat there for almost an hour. The boat is small so the seas... More

I travel with Smiths only if i'm stuck and there is no other way they are that bad. They have boats scheduled that never turn up and I mean never so why have an 11.00am ferry from Virgin Gorda to Road Town if it never runs? The picture is misleading as thats a Speedys ferry and company that always turns... More

Took our usual ferry ride to and from the BVI. Ferry could definitely use an upgrade. First time I've been there without being able to ride open air. Bummer.

Just got back from trip where we needed a ferry between St. Thomas and Road Town,Tortola. Traveling on a Sunday and most of the times per the website were not even available. But Smith's had the first available so at 8:30am we booked a round trip ticket with them and proceeded to wait for our 11:15 departure. At 12:00, while... More

Have taken Smith Ferries between St Thomas and West End Tortola several times. The staff is always helpful and super friendly. Sure they aren't the newest boats but they are the fastest way to get from BVI to USVI. Don't book return as ferry schedules change daily. Go to the dock the day before if you can or call in... More

there are much better alternative ferry services. The departure times are meaningless and their estimates of expected arrivals times wqere figments of their imagination. They also lied when they had mechanic" problems- they advised an alternative boat would arrive "within 5 minutes" it never showed up

Our ticket said Smith's but the counter said Tortola Fast Ferry, which appealed to us after traveling all day. None of the photos on the Smith's website look anything like the boat we got on yesterday!!! It was called the Bomba Charger and looked like an old tugboat. No outside seating, although our luggage got to ride outside perched on... More

Smith's advertises as "Fast Ferry". They aren't fast. When we arrived at the port the ferry was 15 minutes late. We left the harbor and 5 minutes into the trip, the motor went out. We had to SLOWLY make our way back to the harbor. We waited over an hour for another boat. Also, the boats are in severe need... More

A nice, 45 minute ride between Tortola West End and St. Thomas. Old and worn ferries, but that is half the fun. The trip will give you sea breeze and nice panoramic views. The embarking is efficient but the disembarking can be long as you have to wait for all the bags on the ferry to be unloaded before you... More
