this part of the capital is known as old santo domingo, , within this area is the streets lined with colonial buildings, Columbus park, the old forts guarding the city from ships coming up the Caribbean sea, and the historical primada de America. it is a serene and tranquil area of a time in the distant past walking through or... We wanted to take the train for my 10 year old and 2 year old and to get an overview of what and where things were. We did this first so we could go and visit the places we wanted to. It was about a 30 to 45 min. tour. It was a little pricey but you get a "free"... More

Nice 45 min tour to give a feeling of the Zone. Cost 500 pesos but included a bottle of water! It repeated itself on several roads and di not go too far.

This wasn't the greatest thing ever but it was a good thing to do early in our stay and get the "lay of the land" in the Colonial Zone.

The Chu Chu colonial is a great little train that takes you around the colonial zone! They play a tour message throughout the 45 minutes of the tour, it is played in whatever language you want. It doesn't provide very much historical information just what the buildings and streets are. It was good to see everything and then you can... More

I found it too expensive and it does not really do anything. It just go around the colonial city, but I would recommend you to do it walking as you will appreciate everything better and will have to chance to go inside places as everything is in a walking distance.

We hopped on board and got a really good tour of the Colonial Area. Got the "lay of the land" and information about the founding of the city. It was entertaining and enjoyable.

This is about a 45 minute ride on a little "train" through Zona Colonial. The tour is provided in English, but not by a live tour guide. The recorded message is piped into the train, and at times difficult to hear because of other noises. While I didn't get a lot of historical information, what I did get, and it... More

In my opinion, this is the best mode of transporation to see the colonial district of Santo Domingo fairly quickly. The ride was pleasant and the audio description of the sites were thorough.

This place is just a ghetto slum area of poor people. Nothing special to see here. Traffic is terrible and no value for your dollar.
