Tranquility, Temple, garden, Pavement, Buddhist university and the Music. This place is little away from both Xian & Baoji, yet a great place to see for all (foreigners & Chinese). Temple is massive which takes the shape of folded hands (usually done by we Hindus in India during our prayer). The world university for Budhism is located with the complex,... More

Namaste Dagoba/Famen Temple This is a huge site for Buddhist worship!!! It's so big, I wonder how many people actually come here. From the entrance to the newly built Namaste Dagoba is a long walk. The walkway leading to the Dagoba has about 10 different giant Buddhas on the side. Each of the Buddhas have a place for people to... More

when i say its huge, its scarily huge. when you first enter you thought it doesn't look far enough; you start walking and ignoring all those buggies driving passed you thinking all those people on the buggies are wasting their time. its true they are not absorbing in as much as those on foot but if you don't have the... To visit Famen Si , most probably on a day tour from Xi'an ..(which is what I did).. Is to experience two worlds. The massive newly built complex is overwhelming in its scale and so can be a shock for pilgrims going there to see the original and remaining temple which for countless years has housed a sacred relic.. The fingerbone... More

An enormous complex has been built next to the historical temple, and it took nearly 40 minutes to walk end-to-end from the parking lot to the new temple alone (you can pay extra for a tram ride). The overall experience was frustrating as the historical areas were poorly marked and overwhelmed by the huge new complex. The historical artifacts were... More

If you go to the Famen Temple, don´t waste your time at the new temple, but try to take in the old temple, the pagoda under which the relics were found and the museum in which they are displayed! Try to read up a bit ahead of going there, or bring along a knowledgeable guide.

The Disney World of Buddhism is right. The place was enormous with grand entrance and giant statue. The people that operate the place somehow figure out ways to make more money. It seemed like there are charges in turns and corners. I know its a beautiful religion but the people that operates it made it into a theme park. It... More

We went to Famen Temple in May 2011. The guide told us billions of money were spent in renovating it several years ago (in about 2002). Now the whole temple is more like a golden palace. In the end we reached there and found it was really the case. All the temples in China are more or less. Thus we... More

Don't expect to go here for reflection and tranquillity. The once serene and quietly glorious temple and pagoda is now surrounded by a new temple full of harsh, golden icons, a walkway with giant, gleaming Buddha statues and a car park the size of a small city. The New Temple is topped with a massive replica of the box in... More
