Majority of the visitors walk up to the viewing point and have a look from around 100mtrs away. Few take an advance booking an visit inside. After seeing the Matri Mandir from outside, we decided to take a cycle ride inside the Auroville. Cycle maps are available at the exhibition center and cycles are available for a charge, at the... At the very centre of Auroville one finds the 'soul of the city', the Matrimandir, situated in a large open area called 'Peace', from where the future township will radiate outwards. The atmosphere is quiet and charged, and the area beautiful, even though at present large parts of it are still under construction.

I found Pondicherry too hot and humid to handle. Matrimandir and Auroville are not worth a visit - especially for north indians. Food is terrible, avoid the video of this township concept.

We have been to Pondy and Auroville many times but always missed visiting Matrimandir because of their timings. Decided to see it this time. Suffice is it to say that April is not the ideal time in such a stark place. You have to watch a 10 minute video before you are given a free pass to go and view... More

I think my expectations for the Matrimandir were too high. I expected first, to be able to enter the structure, which was not possible, and second that there was a "community" that one could visit and experience. For me, Auroville simply didn't live up to it's hype as an ideal world community dedicated to peace and harmony. I just didn't... More

I am aware that writing this review I may awake the wrath of other people who do find this a truly spiritual place - but I have rarely felt so negative about a place. I went with - I hope - an open mind - having seen many delightful places which feel deeply spiritual in many religions. I found this... More

It took me less than 3 hours to come to Auroville by cab as it is about 156 Kilometer from Chennai Airport. It would be wise to reserve a cab from Auroville, i use +91 413 2623200 Auro Cabs services, was good and polite cab drivers. People here are extremely helpful and kind, and the Matrimandir is one of the... More

Auroville Pondicherry is one of the best place. IT shows that when the mind is clear there are no barriers which will come in between. Matrimandir is the best example for it. When one visits the place, he gets an enlightenment, and feels that all pressures are taken off from the Mind. I had visited the place only once but... More

Probably I had too much of expectations before going to visit this place after having read about it. This place is about 13 Kms from Puducherry situated in the border of tamilnadu area and I had engaged a car through hotel travel desk of Accord Puducherry Hotel which cost me Rs.1290/- (cost of the package 5hrs/40 Kms for an AC... Auroville where the Matrimandir is located, celebrated it's founding anniversary with the usual early morning bonfire. As early as 3 am, we woke up to go to aurovile and around 5 am the bonfire was started. it was a very special experience to see the dancing fire with the golden matrimandir at the background. then the experience of the rising...
