It was my birthday and my mother-in-law asked where I wanted to go to dinner - my reply, "Christophers". Unfortunately they were closed the day of my birthday, but my mother-in-law left an impassioned plea - knowing how much I enjoyed their food. Christopher called and arranged for a cook and single server to open up for us. Thankfully, there... more

I love the beach. This has easy access, free parking and a great walk. It also has public restrooms that are ok, just bring your own sanitizer as I did. This is the off season and can end up being a cool walk if you go in February, but well worth it. more

Had a lovely meal at Hogs Breath Inn. This happens to be the off season which is nice as I am told the place is usually standing room only. We were served right away and staff was pleasant and helpful. I had the grilled chicken salad and my friend had the Hogs Breath Burger. The food was good and a... more

We only had the chance to have breakfast there, but judging by that and what we salivated over in looking at the lunch menu, this place is tops. The menu changes daily. Nice decor, very friendly, attentive service, intimate. Average prices for Carmel, which means a bit expensive for the rest of the country (every restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula... more

This was our first trip to the Carmel/Moneterey area of California. I did a LOT of investigating online since this was my first time traveling and not staying in a large hotel chain such as a Hilton or Marriott property. Service: Very nice front desk lady at while checking-in late in the evening. She was very helpful in answering local... more

No wonder Eastwood took time off to be the mayor! Picturesque, nice architecture that blends into the landscape, lots of greenery. Thoughtfully, the commercial area (shops, restaurants) is separated from the shore by homes, so no "boardwalk-tourist-trap" atmosphere like in most town beach areas. And there are very interesting galleries and shops, nearly all local, no chains. Very good cuisine.... more

As beaches go, this one isn't the prettiest, and the rocks, kelp and strong surf don't make it most attractive (nor safe) for swimming. But the setting and the views are UN-BEAT-ABLE. And how many city beaches do you know where dogs have free rein to run around chasing gulls, each other and the waves; no leashes. A dog's and... more

A paradise of serenity. Hike in the woods or by the shore, marvel at the plumes of ocean waves crashing into the rocks, spot sea otters, sea lions, and, if very, very, very lucky and with binoculars, the spout of a whale in the distance. And all that minutes away from Carmel and Monterey. Can be covered in under an... more

Having been there many times over 15 years things have gone down hill. Yes, it is still a nice place for drinks or dinner outside. Inside is poor and crowded. Since a condo was built on the west side it is even more crowded outside. Food is just fair and menu is just so so. Take your dog as they... more

A trip to Carmel is not complete for us unless we visit the Rio Grill. We love their soy-mustard skirt steak and yams! The food is always excellent quality and the service is good. It's a little pricey, but my husband and I consider it a treat to ourselves. more
